Repairs And Restorations

Repairs and restorations are an important part of my work. I perform all violin, viola and cello repairs including bow rehairing, bridge fitting, soundpost adjustment, fingerboard replacements, peg replacement, crack and seam repairs.

Bridge Fitting

The bridge is one of the most important determinants in the sound and playability of an instrument. We use only the finest German and French bridge blanks. The feet are fitted exactly to the curvature of the belly of the instrument and the height of the arch is matched to the fingerboard to provide the correct string clearance. Finally the bridge is shaped and thinned to enhance the sound quality of the instrument.

Restorations

A restoration can be as simple as gluing an open seam or as complex as removing the top and back of an instrument. The goal of every restoration is to return the instrument to top playing condition with the least amount of alteration to the original structure of the instrument. The utmost care is taken to preserve the original varnish and wood.
