Joseph NeffJoseph Neff was born in Baden, Germany in 1819. He moved to the United States in 1840 and settled in Philadelphia. He was awarded the silver medal for violin making at the 1850 Franklin Institute competition and the silver medal at the 1876 Philadelphia Exhibition. His instruments were recently featured in an American Instruments exhibit at the Smithsonian Institute. We currently have for a violin and viola by this historic maker. Both instruments are in excellent condition and their warm, robust tone reflects the skilled craftsmanship of the maker. We also have the original 1876 award certificate and other historical documents relating to this maker. The price for the viola is $13,500 and the violin is valued at $7,500.
